Việt Vũ (Phạm Quang Trung) is a researcher in the Arts and a filmmaker.
He has so far completed a series of films and audio-visual projects in various socio-political zones, including Belgium, Hungary, Portugal, and Vietnam. His films are shot in long takes with an intimate first-person camera, focusing on queer themes as well as accenting repressed voices from different marginalised populations in a globalizing world. His works have been shown at different European and Asian film festivals – including Locarno, Rotterdam, Tampere, etc.
In 2021, his docufiction "The Eternal Springtime" became eligible for the Oscars nomination after winning “Best Documentary Award” at 66th International Cork Film Festival (Ireland) and “Best Director” at Baku International Film Festival (Azerbaijan). In the same year, his experimental "My Own Room" was granted the prestiged Wildcard Award from Flemish Audio-visual Funds (Vlaams Audiovisueel Fonds, VAF), Belgium. This annual award is dedicated to the best film student who graduates in Flemish Belgium in experimental section each year. Viet attained his Master Degree in Documentary Film Directing at Doc Nomads in 2021, which was fully funded by Erasmus Scholarship. Since September 2022, Viet has been carrying out his doctorant Research In The Arts at University of Antwerp and Sint Lucas Antwerpen School of Arts (KDG), Belgium.
Back in 2018, his debut fiction short "Ant-Man" used to win the top prize – The Most Promising Filmmaker from South East Asia at the 2nd SeaShorts Film Festival in Malaysia.
